The New Era Project

IN-TRANSITION MODE: Crossroads, and The Psychology of a Very Unusual Place...

My stay in the state of Maryland for the last 12 yrs. of my life, (after re-locating from Long Island, New York), has been a trip and a half!!! To say the least. As one should also be able to gather from The Walkersville Sessions-Photo Blog, and some of the other things that I have posted on my Facebook page, (that I originally created to support and promote "The Walkersville Sessions" album), for instance. (See the "Links" tab). Many things, I will probably not be able to go into detail about, (at least publicly), for maybe quite some time. That's how intense my stay there was! Have to leave it at that, for now... The New Era - "Mid-December"

Wanted to add my own musical contribution to the season, for this year, by uploading a new track to the music player...

It is a song that I had been meaning to finish (and record) for some time. (Lyrically, and all). Because, I had always liked the idea of the final chorus climax, and guitar riff. I think it has a great groove, if I may say so myself. The song is pretty much based on my own memories (and dreams) of Christmas, and what many believe to be the real meaning behind the season; As, I also wanted to sort of like evoke images, and a musical feeling if you will, of this time of year: "Mid-December". (Hence, the title)...

It therefore, turned out to be something of a musical colage'. And felt it was an appropriate time to finally finish the track, and make it public. Click-on the Music tab, and check it out. Maybe you will be able to relate, in some way...

The New Era - "Song for Caylee"

Finally finished writing and recording a song regarding the recent events in the news as of late, concerning the story of Caylee Anthony, and the trial of her mother, Caycee. I wrote the song as a tribute to her daughter, Caylee. I have now just uploaded the track here on my own 'Music' page for anyone to stream, free of charge. I hope to make it available for download and digital distribution (via CD Baby), as a single, within a relatively short period of time, as well. Faced with several different and significant challenges, (that I am not going to get into here) this song was therefore some time in the making, but I was determined to finally finish it and make it public. And also, wanted it to be a fitting tribute to the memory of this poor little girl, who was the victim of such a horrible, and presently unsolved crime. I had therefore, worked pretty hard on developing it from a few chord changes and a basic melody, to a completely produced song. The lyrics were especially challenging. But I am pretty satisfied with the results, if I must say so myself. Especially, being that I am still currently doing everything myself. i.e. Songwriter, engineer, producer, etc.

In other words, (and neither here nor there), I am the quintessential Indie artist!!!

But, at any rate, as far as at least part of the inspiration for writing the song, here is where it basically started...

Like many other people across the country, (who were fixated on this story and trial being played out in the news recently), I was moved to compassion for this poor, little girl, and what she must have gone through before she lost her life. It was needless to say, a monstracity of a crime, and broke my heart, when I first learned about it from the sister of a friend, who I had met on facebook; And therefore, took an interest in the story myself. And, pretty much, tried to follow what was coming-out in the news (and online) about it, ever since...

It also made me once again think about the great evil that we (unfortunately) have to deal with in this world, that all too often seems to target and prey on the innocent, the vulnerable, the helpless, and the least among us.

May God grant Caylee's soul everlasting serenity and peace. And justice. "It's a lost, broken world..."

"And Then Winter Came" EP Currently in Production...

Just finished working on my new EP album, 'And Then, Winter Came', which is currently in production and should be released shortly, hopefully in time for the Christmas holiday season. I have uploaded sort of a promo track from the album called: 'Sweet Little Jesus Boy'; Which is a Christmas song composed by a Robert MacGimsey and published back in 1934. (The Harry Fox Agency has the spelling of his last name as, 'MALGIMSEY', for some reason). The style of the song (as it was originally written) is similar to African-American spirituals. It has been recorded by many choirs and solo artists, including Andy Williams. Which has always been my favorite recording of the song. This is my version of this relatively little known, yet never-the-less classic, holiday tune...

Re-Mixed Version of "The Summer Wind"...

Just finished working on and uploading a new version of 'The Summer Wind' for people to stream (and hopefully enjoy) free of charge...

As stated in my previous blog entry, I had uploaded the original version of this recording during the labor day weekend, being that I wanted to have the song made public in some shape or form before the actual end of summer. (And had therefore, sort of rushed the recording). I have since re-mixed and re-mastered the track somewhat, while deleting the previous file; Which can still be listened to on my facebook page. (At least, right now). The track that I have uploaded here on my own personal (and public) website is now currently the new version of the song, as I continue to experiment with recording different things in different ways. Just click-on the Music tab to check it out...

"The Summer Wind" Demo Track-Info

Just uploaded a newly recorded track to the 'Music' tab here on the site, entitled: 'The Summer Wind'It is a song that pretty much wrote itself, and which I felt I had to finish recording and make public, at least by the Labor Day week-end, which is unofficially the end of summer. (Although Summer does'nt really end astrologically until the end of September). It started with the melody, lyrics, and chord changes all at once, which became the chorus for the song, with the words immediately coming together with the melody of, "we got to go-on (hold-on) John, it's like those summer's are never gone", etc. And therefore, decided to dedicate it to and write it about a close friend of mine, by the name of: 'John Sullivan'. He was a fellow musician, who had pretty much passed-away before his time, some years ago already. It brought back allot of memories of that time in my life, all those years ago; Growing-up, hanging-out, and playing music, back on Long Island. Hope you enjoy it. Maybe you can even relate. You know, it's funny how mysterious life can be sometimes, in more ways then one. After recording and listening to the track, I realised there were certain totally un-intentional similarities in the story line of this particular song, and a story I once read about how John Lennon and Paul McCartney had met at a church function (of all things) one summer day back in the 50's. As a matter of fact, if I remember correctly, it was the exact day of my birthday. July 17th! (Could be wrong though. Have to look it up again, sometime). It's also funny how John used to actually remind some of us of Paul McCartney, in allot of ways. Maybe the Irish lineage somewhere in the family tree. I don't know. It was quite remarkable, however. What does it all mean? Don't really know. Probably means absolutely nothing. But at least maybe, of all people, Paul McCartney may just be one person who might quite possibly relate to this song, in some way. Don't know if that will ever really happen. But I do find it a bit mysterious, that the song sort of turned out the way that it did. Lyrically anyway. John and I used to read allot of books about The Beatles when we were kids, and were very influenced by their music, in many ways. Even though, we were eventually influenced by allot of other artists as well, those guys were pretty much the original driving force when were growing up, to learn how to play the guitar, and to write songs for ourselves. And John, although very down to earth (excuse the seeming pun), could also be quite mysterious, himself. He did have that side to him. So it's sort of not unusual therefore, that a song written about him should also turn-out somewhat mysterious as well, in a way. Even had a dream about him after he had passed-away, that was very surreal, to say the least; And that, had very much surprised and astonished me! (And often, had wondered what it meant). Even just recently, as a matter of fact, I had a dream about John as I was recording this song. Sort of like he knew. (Or it could be that he was just on my mind, because of the song). Never-the-less, whatever the reason, may God rest his soul...
