Christopher Cross

Christopher Cross is yet another (Pop) artist who has had such a big influence on my own songwriting and music. He is an excellent songwriter and guitarist, who has been around for quite some time now. I can still remember telling all my musician friends back on Long Island, after I had just purchased (and listened to) his first album (as I started to come back and really listen to and enjoy Pop Music again) at least a few decades ago already, that I thought the record was going to be a huge smash. (I always had an ear for that kind of thing). And sure enough, it went on to win a whopping 5 Grammy's!

I really dig the lyrics in this particular track above (which I believe is from his 4th album). It is so universal in so many ways. I'm sure most people can relate to at least one or more of the verses here. Hauntingly brilliant pop music, at its best. Actually, I just discovered this great find of a music video on YouTube, that looks like it was just fairly recently posted by Christopher Cross himself. His music really brings back so many memories...

One last interesting thing here regarding Christopher Cross' first album. That, around the time of its release, if I remember correctly, I had read (and/or heard) somewhere, most of the album was recorded using around 48 tracks; which was pretty much unheard of back then, and somewhat breaking new ground in studio audio recording, and pretty innovative in itself for a Pop record. (Or any record at the time, for that matter). Cool stuff...

I especially dig the guitar solo work (performed by Christopher Cross) in this track. Brilliantly tasteful, awesome sound and performance, played with such feeling and emotion, that its like it comes from deep inside one's soul. Kinda' reminds me of Duane Allman in a way. Beautiful track...

I really love the magnificent hook in the Chorus of this track. I think it is so good, that (along with the impressive rythm and impeccable production) it makes you want to play the song over and over again, in my opinion anyway. That is the mark of a really great pop song, that has the potential to be a hit. Although, I don't believe this particular song from Cross' first album was ever released as a single. Just shows you how good this album was to begin with...
