In Remembrance of The Dark Days of Hurricane Sandy - One Year Later...

Here are some videos that I inadvertently came across and initially posted to my Facebook page, in relation to Super-Storm Sandy. The amazing thing about this monstrous storm, was not only the fact that it was such a huge hurricane that had hit Maryland at just about the exact same time I was in the process of moving from the state! But, I was not aware of just how hard it had also hit Long Island, including my home town of Lindenhurst. Which, even though I had heard some things about it from family and friends, who still live there, had no idea of just how bad it was. I guess, mostly because I was in transition mode and my head at the time was just not there man. I was sorta' like in stun mode to begin with, in more ways then one. And the storm just seemed to eerily add to that feeling. Wow! It is about one year ago already, and I still can't believe it. Ya know, the timing and everything, but here is sorta' like my tribute (for lack of a better word), if you will, and sorta like a collage that I put together here, in memory of something I don't think I will forget anytime soon, and just wanted a record of it all in some form anyway, and sorta' like what the whole (somewhat mysterious) experience meant to me...

Note: Actual date of this blog post (before having to migrate this content to my new webhost provider) was really Sept. 22nd, 2013...

I definately recognize this area. In fact, if I am not mistaken, there is a scene in this particular video, by what I think may be the Wellwood Docks. These were the docks where me and my friend Larry would fish from when we were around 14 yrs old. Back then, you could actually catch flounder from Great South Bay. We use to throw the eels to my grandmother, to cut the heads off and skin 'em, because we were too sqeamish. And then, we would barbecue them in the backyard! (I will never forget it). But yea, on a much more serious note, I would think the South Shore of Long Island would have gotten hit the hardest. Because, with both the Ocean and Great South Bay adjacent to one another, you have allot, and I mean ALLOT of water there. And allot of houses south of Montauk Hwy, that are allot closer to the shore then north of the highway...

O.M.G. In all the years I lived on Long Island, I have never seen Montauk Hwy flooded like this. Ever! Wow. Meanwhile, (I guess during this same time period) late at night, the winds were actually shaking the walls of my own house (or rather, the house I rented) in Maryland, as I was packing and preparing to move. I couldn't believe it! I was shitting my pants, and thought I was gonna die!

And, as I have just realized, and had mentioned in my Aug. 19th/26th, 2012 post on my Facebook page, the dream that I had of The Beatles: The Long and Winding Road song, about a year ago, oddly enough, not too long after I had that dream, had become reality...

And, I have to be honest, I was somewhat bitter (and apprehensive) for awhile, because of some of the circumstances that eventually led me to the situation that I had found myself, and really, through no fault of my own, I have to say...

On a somewhat lighter note, this video was also recorded in my hometown of "Lindenhurst", and from what I understand, has gone viral. Very cute. Those Long Island accents bring back allot of memories...
