The New Era - Near Me (Remix)

"The stars are in your eyes, the moon is in your lips. The sun is in your skin. It makes you glow, just like an angel.. Are you there through it all, to catch me when i fall? Are you there, waiting with me, no matter where?" (Veronica Mendoza)

The 'Near Me' track is a song that I inadvertently wrote and recorded in a key that really stretched the limits of my own vocal range, and was definitely a challenge to record, and is still currently an experimental track, and a work in progress. The other track in this video (that I started to write during my last days in Maryland) is also, still currently a work in progress. The 'Near Me' track itself, was actually finished while I was temporarily staying in a hotel, using my Porta-Studio, while waiting to move to another apartment within the same complex in Raleigh, as I mention in the video. (Which was actually the 2nd time I stayed in a hotel before moving to this particular apartment complex). Hence, that part in the lyrics: "Going home, oh yes, I'm going home..."

But anyway, I thought I would just use both versions of these tracks (for whatever its worth) to sorta' like create a Music Video journal for now, if nothing else...

Also, much of the lyrical imagery in the 'Near Me' track is based on the 'Tao Te Ching.' For example, the verse in the Chorus with the lyrics: "It's got to be near me, It's got to be there. Just like the wind blows, someway, somewhere." In other words, what is the meaning of 'It' in: "It's got to be near me" for example? Exactly. That's part of the mystery. I don't even freakin' understand it! For the most part anyway...

"Nameless, is the origin of Heaven and Earth.. This same origin is called 'The Profound Mystery.' As profound a mystery as It can be.. It is the Gate to the essence of all life. Tao is so profound and yet invisible. It exists everywhere and anywhere.. It existed before heaven and earth..."   -Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

Interesting. This came up as one of the suggested videos at the end of a particularly scary video (that I had initially posted here, but have since moved to another, somewhat more relevant post) while working on this particular blog post. Once again, not being particularly very religious myself, I am never-the-less reminded of a passage from the Bible (that I remember learning as a kid), which goes something like this: "When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will raise up a standard against him." Also, a quote (that may be applicable here) from 'The Shawshank Redemption': "Hope is a good thing."
