Along with the OBI, Musicland, and Entenmann's Bakery (and other once well known locales) I just found out from a friend on Facebook, that another Long Island landmark (and institution), this one in my own home town of Lindenhurst, is soon to become history...

"The Lindenhurst Diner, a place where countless locals have made memories for over six decades, is closing.
The iconic diner on Montauk Highway will shut down for good on Sunday afternoon, owner John Loizides told Patch.
Loizides said a developer approached the diner and made the Loizides family an offer for the property.
Loizides said the family decided to sell the property for “personal family reasons,” but he added that “it’s time to move on.”
Word of the diner closing has spread rapidly across Lindenhurst, with many residents recalling their fond memories made at the diner.
“They are heartbroken,” said Loizides, whose parents first opened the diner on Wellwood Avenue before it moved to its current home at 195 Montauk Highway.
“We will miss them as well,” Loizides said, of the diner’s patrons.
A large red banner currently hanging outside the diner reads: “Thank You! to All our Patrons for 61 Wonderful Years.”
