A Look Back in Time: In the Spring 11 Years Ago, a Record 100 Tornados hit North Carolina in a Single Day!

Yea, I don't think I will ever forget this story. In fact, I just remembered this, and did some research to see if it was really true; and just had to blog about it. Ya see, the economy in Maryland was starting to take a nose dive (particularly in the area I was living) during the Great Recession; which was somewhat related to the housing market crash during that time. And being that I had family living in North Carolina (while also remember reading some material back in the late 90's about how Governor Jim Hunt had sorta' like turned the state around, and made it a popular destination for people looking to relocate) I was therefore looking into possibly moving there myself. Which didn't actually happen until several years later, when I took a chance and moved to Raleigh, to check it out. But I will never forget, during the spring of 2011, this news story reaching all the way to Maryland. I had never heard anything like it before. (And can still remember talking about it with someone from the Labor Dept in the State, to see if the story was really true). I never heard anything in my life related to something like 100 tornados hitting an entire state in a matter of hours. I mean, Maryland was like the first state I ever lived in, where they did sometimes actually have a tornado warning, particularly during the spring, but nothing like this. (Although, from what I understand, this particular outbreak was one for the record books). It was so strange, that I was actually starting to wonder if this was a sign, or a pre-cursor of things to come. Because, when I did finally decide to move to the state, someone by the name of Pat McCrory was just recently elected Governor of North Carolina, and was a complete and total disaster, and by far, the worst governor of any state that I had lived in up until that time; and can still remember my jaw dropping in utter amazement (and fear) when I watched (and listened to) his first state of the state speech from my hotel room. (Almost like they knew I was going to be moving there!) He seemed to eventually turn around just about everything that the great governor Jim Hunt had done before him, and actually came close to totally devastating the state of North Carolina, to the point where it may very well never be quite the same again. (Enough said). But anyway, yea (for more reasons then one) this is just another story I don't think I will ever forget anytime soon, and just had to document it somewhere...
